A poem for a pairing

The sun stretches it’s way across the living room,

long shadows reaching out 

to say good morning,

the kettle clicks, boiled. 

Steam gently rising,

gently rise to greet the day. 

The dog's tail wags,

smell of coffee a sign of what’s to come. 

A touch on the shoulder 

says more than words,

you both smile, 

two thermos at the ready,

you are steady as you stand,

together. Shoulder to shoulder,

hand in hand, 

you face this day 

as you face any other. 

Together, 

here you stand.
