I robbed a bank

One night
I robbed a bank
I went in with a gun
and forced everybody
to lie on the ground
while I took their money.
I even shot a man
when he tried to stop me
but it was his own fault,
he shouldn't have been
so brave.

The next day
I robbed my friend
I went in with my words
and forced her
to feel like dirt on the ground
while I took her self-worth.
I even punched a guy
when he stood up for her
but it was his own fault,
he shouldn't have been
so heroic.

And now
it's 25 years later.
The bank is fine,
the people are fine,
nobody really got
badly affected
when I robbed a bank.
But yesterday
I saw my friend
walking.
She had her head down
she shuffled her feet
as she walked.
I asked her what’s wrong?
and she said,
"I'm worthless."

I wonder why
I got put in prison
for stealing some money
when those people are fine.
But nobody did anything,
or said anything,
when I took something
she
could
never
get
back.
