The Scooteria Kids to the Rescue
"Who are you?" asked Sally Skipper, seeing the new scooter at the
door.
"What's it got to do with you?" NickyNRG rudely replied.
Nicky, having just arrived with his brother, the IceMan, AleX9, and
Harry Hexagon, had sped on ahead to meet the gang which Harry had told
them about. He was a black and green, very flash, machine, who seemed
too sure of himself, Sally thought.
"Harry!" cried Sally, as he appeared around the corner, "you're
back!"
She hugged him tightly, glad to see him back at last from Italy.
The rest of the Scooteria Kids had heard the excitement and rushed to
see what was going on. There was a scramble as they all tried to hug
Harry at the same time.
Harry wanted to see his 'girls' first - EmmaT4, Lucy Liberty, Alice
Zip, and Rebecca Runner.
"Have you looked after them, Emma? It looks like you have," beamed
Harry, remembering that he had asked Emma to take care of her sisters
before he went to Italy after the loss of Sonia.
For the next few hours, they all swapped stories. The Scooteria Kids,
about school, Horseshoe Bay, and football. Harry, about his trip to
Italy, and the return of the red glow which had transformed the
newcomers, as it had done before with Harry and Sonia Sfera, and then,
later, the Scooteria Kids.
The sleek, silver AleX9, and her two boys, Nicky and the IceMan, silver
and cool, did not have any stories to add yet, apart from the
excitement of what the red glow had done to them. Nicky and the IceMan
couldn't wait to be part of the gang's adventures, while AleX9 was
getting more and more interested in Harry, big, green Harry.
The Scooteria Kids' school, St.Michael's, found two more places for
Nicky and the IceMan, who were soon accepted by the other school
children. Of course, the ScootBall teams could be larger, they could
now have 5-a-side teams for the scooter-mounted football game.
"Would you like us to take you on the chain-ferry this weekend?" asked
PX Peter, the oldest and wisest of the gang, who thought Harry might
like to be alone with AleX9 for a while.
Nicky and the IceMan jumped at the chance. Tommy Typhoon was pleased
that the two were similar to him, but also felt they might cause a bit
of trouble. They seemed to have so much energy &;#8230;.
At the weekend the gang left Harry and AleX9 alone and set off for the
chain-ferry. Nicky and the IceMan were so excited with their freedom -
they went crazy, pulling wheelies and all sorts of stunts, hooting at
the girls!
They left the ferry quite a bit slower than they had left the Isle of
Wight ferry when they were chased by the big motor-bikes. Before long
they had speeded up and were having a lot of fun.
They went through the lovely town of Swanage and then headed out to
discover some more of the Purbecks.
Up ahead in the road, there appeared to be some commotion. They arrived
to find an old-style coach had stopped and there were lots of children
crying, and strangely dressed grown-ups walking around looking very
upset.
"We'll have to abandon the Hunt now, thanks to this stupid coach,"
snivelled Tania, one of the strangely dressed horse riders.
"That's not fair," said Tony, the coach-driver, "your friend just rode
out in front of me."
"Darling, it was not the driver's fault. Nigel lost control of Dobbin
and he ran straight into the road," added Giles, Tania's husband.
None of the children from the coach was injured, but one of the horse
riders was, and his friends were getting worried about where the
ambulance had got to.
We'll go and have a look for it, if you want," offered EmilyT2.
"What did you say, you silly little scooter?" replied Tania, who the
Scooteria Kids thought had a mouthful of light bulbs, so strange was
her voice.
"We can go and find out where the ambulance has got to," said Lucy
Liberty.
"How can you possibly do that?" bulby-mouth asked.
"Tania, I think they're just trying to help," said another rider.
The Scooteria Kids decided not to wait for Tania to make up her small
mind, and set off to find the ambulance. Before long they came across
the ambulance which had broken down on the side of the road.
"Get on," said PX Peter, "we'll take you to the accident."
The two paramedics climbed aboard PX Peter and Sally Skipper and set
off.
"Alice," called out Emma, "you come with me."
Alice followed her sister, who had offered to go and tell the ambulance
station about the broken-down ambulance.
The rest of the gang had managed to get the paramedics back to the
accident, and before long the horse rider had been put into a
helicopter and taken away to hospital.
By this time the children from the coach had clamed down and were
talking to the Scooteria Kids. The children had just spent two days at
Leeson House, an activity centre for children from all over the
country, and were returning to their school, Amherst, in Kent.
The Amherst children were fascinated by the adventures of the Scooteria
Kids and would have liked to have stayed longer to play together,
especially ScootBall!
Two girls from Amherst were particularly interested as they played
football at school. Rachel and Charlotte were hoping that they could
meet Emma one day to talk about football. It was Emma who had first
thought of ScootBall when the Scooteria Kids started at St. Michael's,
but she was still on her way back from the ambulance station and the
coach had to leave now.
Another time, maybe &;#8230;
