Wildfire

Here we are,
Sitting so close but feeling miles apart,
I want to speak but don’t know where to start,
Is this the road that leads to a broken heart?
A nightingale sings sweetly through the bedroom window,
Luminous shadows dance to the tune,
Shape shifting magnificence as I rest upon my pillow,
I wonder if this distance is what we need to stay in bloom.
I look at you sleeping so peacefully there,
The rise and fall of your chest,
Thinking of distant happy memories with care,
Remembering a time when you loved me best.
This hatred for another has completely consumed you,
Like an angry wildfire that burns fast through dried woods,
It will leave you hollow and begging for forgiveness,
It won’t take much time till you realize you’re being used.
So, here we are,
Sitting so close, holding you in my heart,
I will never let you take up arms and fight alone,
No, I would never let you endure this storm alone.
