No surprises PLEASE

I tell you I hate surprises
As they steal my time to prepare
They’re the epitome of unfair
And always catch me unaware

They make a nonsense commotion
And push stress levels way up high
Leaving behind this emotion
That spills over to make me cry

I hate ‘off guard’ with a passion
As it dictates all forced choices
Inappropriate reactions
Deadening sensible voices

Don’t give me any surprises
Because you shall have them returning
With slammed doors, flying devices,
Or a Mississippi Burning
