(After a painting by Marc Chagall, 1959)
Grey – the colour of winter,
as is your hair, and yet its perfume
speaks to me of Spring...of columbine,
nasturtiums, and sweet-peas.
Grey – the colour of hope,
as are your eyes, and so they hold
the promise we two shall rise again
from the ashes of time.
Grey – the colour of smoke,
as the purple-throated phoenix
that bids us go with it, before the moon
begins to wane and a new one slips, silver
into hyacinthine sea.

Some beautiful imagery here, just love these lines :
And yet its perfume speaks to me of Spring - of columbine, nasturtiums and sweet peas.
And this is scrumptious :
Before the moon begins to wane and a new one slips, silver into hyacinthine sea.
Divine!

As you know Tina, I just love art, so this poem was
right up my street.
You really captured a moment in time. I could see
and feel the atmosphere of the painting, of which
I shall see if I can find on the internet and get
back to you.

Hi again Tina,
I found the painting, it almost has a spiritual
feeling about it, almost like a ghost rising,
but with beautiful colours, like you said:-
Grey - the colour of hope,
as are your eyes, and so they hold
the promise we two shall rise again
from the ashes of time.
Loved those lines.
Jenny.

Have you ever wandered
Have you ever wandered around Google Art? You can go to many art exhibitions in brilliant Art Galleries around the world, The Louvre, Tate, Van Gogh Museum, in Berlin, The Czech Republic..can't remember all the names..YOu can almost get closer to the painting than where it is hanging..not the same as wandering around the Art Museums but I am sure you know where I am coming from. I think it is fantastic.
Must google this painting.. thanks Tina for a wonderful poem..
My french was all right...;D gris=grey- I haven't lost it completely..

A lovely poem Silver which captures the essence of Chagall's painting. Always find it interesting when a poet considers/ interprets a great work of art !
