Sitting, alone, in the taxi, coming back home, 
it felt surreal...like a dream; you couldn’t be gone.
My hand, instinctively, reaching for yours, across
the tacky, plastic  seat, missing the velvety lines
of your corduroy slacks. We always said, everything
that happened, happened for a reason, in the ‘grand
scheme of things’, except, there was no good reason
on earth...not for this. Unlike our first kiss; you – 
groping my boobs as we lay on your bed, smooching
to a scratchy Ray Charles and his Bluesette...sensing 
something I’d never felt before...a warmness, 
inside my belly, and a kind of a tingle 
in my legs.
 
We’ve come such a long way since then, and if I could
turn back the clock – two kids and a lifetime ago, 
it would be that moment on a crowded, stuffy train, 
stranded in a tunnel, somewhere between Terminal Apathy 
and Going Out of My Mind, when my work-weary head 
drowned, for half an hour, in the softness of your shoulder,
and I surfaced again to hear you saying, Sorry to wake you
but this is where I get off...My name’s Dave, by the way,
and you turned at the door, grinned and waved, and I saw 
how I’d dribbled all down the front of your new, white shirt. 
And on our first date, you confided you’d had a bet
with yourself my eyes were brown...and they were,
except now, they’re the brownest of things blue

How lovely Tina.  It's all about those moments, isn't it? And, more, the trick of conveying them.  I love the drool.  I remember doing that once.  On a train returning to York from RAF Binbrook.  I awoke drooling and sort of yodelling opposite a terrified mum and little girl.  Oh, well.  They probably tell it better.  True about eyes, too.  Great writing.  Really enjoyed.
