“For Death came flying
through the air; stopped his flight
at the dugout stair, touched his prey
and left them there, clay to clay.”
‘Rouge Bouquet’ Joyce Kilmer
If I should fall, then bury me
in the churchyard down the lane,
where as a child, Queen Mary’s lace
adorned the wooded way.
There lies a patch of God’s green earth
I have deed and title to;
though time may mute my battle cry
I shall call the final tune.
So let me share eternal peace
with the one who owns my heart,
then side by side our vow to break...
for death would ne’er us part.
