Autumn's Canvas

Hi Rhiannon,

I so agree with you and glad you got what I was trying to convey. I just love the autumn colours which cheer me up. Our garden is growing quite wild at the moment as it's been way too hot to do much at all, but the birds appear to love the overgrown weeds and peck away searching for food, so that pleases me.

those mellow colours always make me feel closer to nature and walking in the forest when the trees are just changing...there's nothing like it. Like Rhiannon, we are already starting to get a few blackberries, but they're not quite ripe enough to eat yet, just love blackberry picking, especially in our local forest.

Hello Di,

it's funny you should mention the painter, I tried to put brush to canvas the other day as I used to paint a lot and wanted to paint an Autumn scene which was the inspiration for this poem, but I just couldn't seem to get down what was in my head, i suppose it's because I'm out of practice and been quite a few years since I've painted, but writing and reading seems to have taken the front seat. Oh well never mind, I'm sure it will come back to me if I keep trying.

I just love the Pre Raphaelites and agree that Autumn colours describe that time perfectly.

good to hear from you, I hope you are well. No I've never heard of Keats poem Ode to Autumn, I'll have to look it up. I love that you found it sensual...what a lovely way to describe this poem. I'm really inspired by Autumn and Winter and have a few poems up my sleeve at the moment. 

I thought that Summer might inspire me, but to be quite honest I'm fed up with all the heat, though on saying that it's a lot cooler today...at last! Hope you're managing to keep cool and thank you for stopping by to read and let me know you enjoyed. Always good to hear from you.

Good morning Di,

you know I do have trouble getting out and about in the heat of the sun. It's probably something to do with getting older...well for me anyway. When I was younger I lived for the sun and even used to teach dance aerobics when it was hot, but not anymore, I've also learnt to keep out of the sun which seems to be stronger these days, which means I don't go walking as much as I'd like.

Painting for me was a great hobby once upon a time, but I need to be in the mood to create which is something that's just not there at the moment. But at least I've got my writing. I get my new glasses next week, so I'll be seeing things a lot clearer...can't wait!

You are certainly right about seeing every detail Di. I remember the first pair of glasses I ever wore, it was like nature's colours came alive, all the deep richness was unblievable and I could hardly take it all in. I've been wearing the same glasses for two years now, so as you can imagine I'm ready for the thrill of being able to see a lot more cleary.

Hi Jean,

I don't really know how to lay a poem out properly, I just go with what I'm feeling at the time. I remember when I first came on abc tales not really having a clue about what a poem should look like, as I'd always just written for myself in the past, and had excercise books filled with bits and pieces that were put together over time.
