The Beat Goes On

Spin a dream catcher spider
outside my window pane,
take away my nightmares
fill the air with pleasant dreams,
for encounters while out walking
keeping to my personal space,
purify sanity by daylight
massaging this sheltered heart,
I count the many empty streets
imagine threading each step I take,
sewing pavements into squares
a patterned quilt of movement,
composed by miles of roadside trees and houses,
where neighbours have time to wash unused cars,
they potter about unseen like long lost ghosts,
all that effort needs a resting place.
I've mastered a lot in progress of life
engaged in both solitude and socializing,
now! This house is filled with creaks and moans;
walls are breathing like an old friend living,
and still the beat goes on.

This is WONDERFUL. What a positive, vitalising poem! Particularly love:
"imagine threading each step I take,
sowing pavements into squares
a patterned quilt of movement,
composed by miles of roadside trees and houses,"
BEAUTIFUL imagery!!!
ps do you mean sew, like material, or sow like seeds?
As always, reading a poem of yours cheers me right up :0)
Hope you are well

where neighbours have time to wash unused cars,!! I mentioned that to my husband, who then said, 'Oh, I should be doing that!' to which I replied if he had time to fill, as he has been very busy as always! Our car has plenty of countryside still adhering to it I think, despite not being used much recently!
There are benefits to the pause of rush in lockdown, but there are many struggles too. Rhiannon

Hi Jenny,
Hi Jenny,
Some lovely imagery in this poem. A feel good poem in spite of the corona.

Really great. I also loved the sewing pavements into squares. And the bit about all that effort because it is an effort.
P.S. I almost didnt't read it when I saw the word spider being arachnaphobic. There is one called Hugo the Humungous who lives in the shed in my back yard and comes out to wave his legs at me when it's hot!

I guess we're all
I guess we're all dreamcatchers. Sadly, if often slips away when you try to hold it. Apart from you, of course, you catch it...the spider!

What has been referred to as
What has been referred to as the new normal. The streets around our neighbourhood are quiet as if someone has stripped all life from it. I was amused by the observation of people still washing their cars even though the remain undriven. Often people care more about their cars and computers than themselves. Years ago I used to walk through a less afluent suburb of Wellington and see well polished and cared for cars parked outside overgrown delapidated sections.
Hope your dream catcher spider spins you a healthy tomorrow.
