Cone Of Enlightenment

Pine cones scattered waiting motionless,
delicate living things, nature's minuscule
diving boards that have no springs,
upturned becomes shelter for tiny world of
insects...but what of movement? I wonder!
Resembles sprinkling fountain maybe,
so no limitations to feed creativity.
Glimpse these curious miracles
you can purchase neatly packed,
in potpourri...occasionally sprayed
or glittered, but it doesn't have
the same affect,
I'd rather wander ancient forests
where they dwell peacefully,
place between worlds where there's
warmth of smile, greeting of hello
and I can watch evening's perfect glow.
Little cone I picked up sits
beside my pottery mouse,
in Topsy-turfy imagination
cone becomes a house,
with tiled roof, chimney too,
inventing attic space
hiding me from view.

Love the idea of pine cones
Love the idea of pine cones being like diving boards - as you have done diving into all your thoughts, like how we use pinecones all nearly packaged up/confined while in the forests they come from they are part of the weather, Life. And out walking in the woods, people too are free from the niche of work, income etc. And how limmited they are by glitter and paint, made less. (people too maybe) But valued for what they are, how intricate and beautiful and strange, they stimulate your imagination, free the child inside who remembers when so many things were magical
Again you have made something seeming simple into into something wonderful, thought provoking and personal

I hadn't thought about their
I hadn't thought about their usefulness for insects hiding. Like the reserve managers leave dead wood often lying in piles. I suppose they rot eventually on the ground, but we have a couple of enormous ones linked together, that we came across years ago, and they are still strong and sturdy decoration, graceful and attractive! I love your nature pieces
I love your nature pieces where you take something seemingly small and insignificant and put it under your imagination's microscope. A very well deseved cherry!

They are curious miracles
They are curious miracles aren't they. Children are naturally drawn to them because they are so fascinating. My next door neighbour has a Monkey Puzzle and in summer the male cones emit visible clouds of pollen. I'd rather wander ancient forests, what could be better. Perfect nature poem.
