One of Obsidian's top security pilots was a man named Addie, he had been on many missions throughout his working life, not only to the new world, but also discovering other planets.
There were so many stars and planets out there that they had their eyes on, but there were many decisions to make, as to whether they would be habitable, or if in fact they already had life. Addie realised the heavy responsibility that lay on his shoulders, knowing they would have to tread carefully. The not knowing was the worst part, but not rushing things was more important.
One such planet in Obsidian's solar system, was under satellite navigation. The surface didn't show any signs of life, but that didn't mean that life didn't exist. Addie felt under so much pressure.
He and his wife Lena, lived with their son Luke in comfortable quarters, within the top security accommodation. Addie could be called up at any time, day or night, so he needed to be close to his job at all times.
Lena sat quietly in her kitchen eating alone. Addie had gone on a flight and she had no idea when he would be back. She played with her food, not really enjoying the omelette she had cooked and she hated eating alone, so she decided to take her meal into the garden, at least there she could watch the fish that swam in their raised pond, along with her parrot and other tropical birds.
The pond had a waterfall which fed its way down some rocks, where crystals and candles had been placed in small inlets within the rock. This was Lena's little bit of heaven, where she and Addie could relax.
As she sat down on one of the wicker chairs, she thought about Addie, she'd been worried for him lately, he seemed to be preoccupied, tired and moody. Whenever she asked him what was wrong? He would just say, “nothings wrong...I'm fine!”
Though Lena knew differently. She had a feeling it was to do with his work, but she knew he couldn't discuss certain things with anyone outside of the job...not even his wife, so she didn't press him for answers.
Addies great, great, great grandfather, had been the very first pilot to Obsidian. Himself and the others of the team had brought with them things that were personal and important to them, that they felt should be remembered from the old earth as it was.
One of those possessions was a very, very old piece of music, that Lena loved to listen too when Addie was away.
She stood up and walked to a control panel on the wall, there was a listing of tracks of music. When she found what she was looking for, she touched the pad with her finger, she smiled as rocket man started to play by a musician called Elton John, from the old world, from a very long time ago. This was Addie's song to her.
Sitting back down in the wicker chair, she lay back closing her eyes, drifting into her own thoughts, wondering about Addie and if he was okay. Suddenly she awoke with a jerk, realising she'd fallen asleep. “Oh this is no good, I think I'll have an early night.” she said to herself.
Then she remembered her son Luke was out celebrating his eighteenth birthday, and wondered how he was getting on. Lena was so proud of what her son had achieved, she wanted him to have a good evening and relax, he deserved it. She knew he lived for his goals in life, and was extremely focused.
Standing up and walking over to the pond, she blew the candles out, then walked over to the control pad and turned off the garden lights. Her bed was waiting, a new day lie ahead for her tomorrow.
