Dear Diary...rendering work on front of house started on

Monday 18th April 2016;

 

finished on

Friday 22nd April 2016.

 

Exterior ravaged

by hands of time,

built in 1909 and

needing a fresh start.

 

An expert touch to

seal this deal, shaking

of hands gives respite

from years of waiting,

 

now with watchful eyes

I see faded by darkness,

eaten away a need to protect

Victorian brickwork crumbling,

 

pigments of color now dull

but a treasure – soon to be hidden

once more neath a rendering glory,

fresh start of Ivory concealment.

Our first house was, I think, built in 1906, and we had to have a coating put on it. The old brickwork does have lovely colours. It's nice to hear of 'shaking hands' on a deal, so much paperwork and distrust, and untrustworthiness around. Rhiannon

Hi Jenny

It sounds like our old house too - which we had to have rerendered due to bits of it being very damp. And we had white paint on the pebbledash  and it really looked nice when it was done. Good luck with it. I enjoyed reading your poem.

this was just a dear diary reminder for me, something to look back on.

Ivory is an amazing color and looks really good on the front of the house, can't stop looking at it.

Hi Rhiannon,

the front of our house has looked terrible for years, so when we could eventually afford to get it done, I was so happy, it looks brand new now.

Like you said the old Victorian brickwork has some lovely colours to it, but they were so faded and the pointing was bad which was why we were getting a lot of damp in the front, but now hopefully we can start to put those problems right...thank goodness.

The guys who did the job were foreign, but I have no idea where they came from, they were such hard workers and I was amazed how quickly they finished the job. So glad it's done now.

Hi Jean,

thank you for your good luck wishes. It was such a busy week with the work being done, but now it's all finished I can relax somewhat.

I'm just relieved to be living in a damp free zone in the front. I can imagine how glad you must have felt when your house had been rendered. Thank you for stopping by and reading, always grateful for your thoughts.
