Let him Shine this Man of Words!

They called him the Lizard King
he said he could do anything...
getting lost in his desert dreams,
and with his spellbinding voice
I close my eyes look deep inside...
he takes me on a magic carpet ride,
to some he was a troubled man
they thought he'd lost his way,
but to me he was a great poet
touching people with his words,
looking deep inside his soul
words would spill out,
like water cascading
down a waterfall,
his younger days
there's not much known
he was an admiral's son,
a rebel - a free spirit...
he talked of dead Indians
entering his very soul,
the Doors of perception
opening his mind,
expanding drugs
taking him to Nether Worlds...
a place a man could loose himself,
strange days he encountered
out there in the desert,
but he died alone on the 3rd of July 1971
probably just waiting for the sun...
his poetry lives on,
his grave is a shrine
for those that grew to love this man
and there he'll always Shine.
