Nostalgic

recollections fun

house named

Play School,

teaching Sophie

entertainment

could be educational,

 

glancing with Big Ted

and little Ted through

square window frame,

observing people and

places never seen,

 

follow Humpty's

roly-poly shape

and stare,

by means of

round window

over there,

 

believing dolls

Jemima and Poppy

with fixed gaze

watched blue tits

and sparrows bathe,

 

keeping cool under

sunshine rays,

other side of

arched window,

cleaning...preening

on Summer days,

 

through little eyes

I too saw magical

toys come alive,

but learned poor

dear Hamble

didn't survive,

 

hope she went

to a good home

some place where

she fitted in

where little dolls

are loved,

not thrown in bin.

 

We came in

had a look

heard story

from picture book,

 

memories don't

fade away,

try and guess

which window

we look through today.

By the way It was Christmas Eve on a Thursday that year, exactly the same as this year, so I'm glad I found this video.

Hi Rhiannon,

glad you thought this poem was a good idea for I P. 

I was a nanny to a little girl called Sophie back in the 1970s. I cared for her for two and half years until she started school, she was even a bridesmaid at my wedding. It was a great job because she was no trouble at all...thankfully. We got on really well and Play School was one of her favourite tv programmes, which is what inspired this poem.

Thanks Paul,

there's such a nosalgia about Play School, i'm just glad the I P jogged my memory. Being a nanny I think was one of my favourite jobs, mainly because I worked for such a nice family and I enjoyed being a child minder, gave a lot of satisfaction to watch Sophie grow.

those were the days of wonder weren't they? So simple yet so much fun for little eyes and mums and dads watching the smiles on their childrens faces.

I must admit to being a nostalgia freak. So much of my younger life was full of adventure and fond memories of people and places, it makes me happy to return if only in words.
