Beauty and Beholders
I knew I was in love when you
Stapled my finger for a laugh
Poured bleach into my bath
And cut my hair when I was asleep
The memories I shall keep
My suicidal friend
You and your tablets
The silence on the stairs
Catching the world
Unawares
I knew I was in love when you
Scratched your name on my face
Revelled in everything bad taste
Cutting patterns into your skin
The memories wandered in
My suicidal muse
You and your syringes
Naming all your tears
Catching your troubles
Kissing fears
Whilst you read aloud your favourite verse
“Beauty and beholders
Servants and the served
Some of us are soldiers
Some of us undeserved
Disorder and obey
Masters and the slaves
Some of us taken away
To sleep in strangers graves”
I knew I was in love when you
Painted fuck you
On your coffin lid
Your promise of making me laugh
At your funeral came true
My suicidal friend
Death has no idea
What it has done.
