Roadworks

Everywhere you go
You go slow
Traffic lights and signs
Altered white lines
Still,
Time stuck in a line
Is never wasted
When you can see traffic on the other side
In the same position as you
What are you thinking about?
Your job or the stage of your life
Where your act has grown tired
Do you see other drivers behind the wheel
Looking a lot like you?
There are no short cuts
To escape the queue
Do you wonder if this
Is what you were born to do?
It’s getting darker
You’re down to a single file
You’ve been here an hour now
And travelled 2 miles
Still,
You now know the names
Of several hauliers
And you’ve seen the idiots
Who weave in and out of lanes
Trying to make tiny gains
Ignored by the silver flash
Of speed cameras
Made redundant by the roadworks
The irony of this
Made you smile
Another hour
Another 2 miles
Home is a long way from here….

Remaining stuck on traffic it
Remaining stuck on traffic it's always a great time for melancholy, for great thought and subtle thinking. Like it!

"...You’ve been here an hour
"...You’ve been here an hour now And travelled 2 miles..."
How lucky you are smokejack.
I used to wait 2 hour's plus just to move a few yards
I walk now.
