Rusty

We were laughing about the state of the car
That we called rusty
The seats were so dusty
And something stank
We were trying to guess how far
We’d get
On a quarter of a tank
The brakes were shaky the clutch often stuck
We almost crashed into the back of a truck
We were leaving this town for good
As the rained smashed against the screen
We had no money no water no food
We felt so good
Our plans written on a packet of cigarettes
We were not taking any bets
Love conquers all we said
We felt the same in our heart and head
You put your head on my shoulder
We were young but felt much older
We were high on our fantasy mountain
Drinking imaginary water from a secret fountain
We promised this journey
Would never see us alone
The car broke down
We pushed it off the road
We fell off our throne
2 miles from home
