KISSING THE BREATHALYSER.
Sneak.
Swerving gently into traffic.
Across your path I fell.
The slaughter of the innocence.
Her face I knew so well.
A mask of battered glory.
My compromise was none.
The selfishness of my blind state,
left sober now she's gone.
And I could wish her everything.
But everything I took.
I Kissed the breathalyser.
I stole a second look.
I closed my eyes in weakness.
Nightmares replay on cue.
No more 'Happy new years'
A Yuletide without you.
Your gift to me unopened.
A lipstick kiss now dry.
You were my destination.
The headlight in my eye.
Self loathing knaws at sorrow.
In tears I'll celebrate.
Closer to my judgement.
The focus of my fate.
I'll take this life for granted.
I'll raise my glass to you.
A choir of arctic angels,
beneath a moon of blue.
And tears will freeze in old eyes.
Preserving my regret.
I'll stagger into Christmas.
Forever in her debt.
