The Angel's Silence 35

John was torturing himself with endless questions.

"Who could have taken Adamo?"

A nurse named Hristina Zara walked into his room. She appeared to be 170 cm with long straight black hair in a ponytail, with green eyes.

"Good morning, Mr. Siena. I am nurse Hristina Zara. I was asked here by doctor Dinh Hovhannes.

He is busy with another patient, but wants you up and walking."

"I thought I still had many more hours until I had to get up?"

He said

"Yes, well those are Dr. Hovhannes' orders."

"I don't have time for this. I need to find a little boy named Adamo. He was kidnapped. Please, find the doctor and have him discharge me. I have much to do, and am of no use here."

"I think that is a bad idea, sir. Not long ago you were almost killed. It could..."

Before she had time to finish her sentence, John cut her off.

"That is exactly why I have to get to work. Whoever did this could kill again, could even kill Adamo."

Nurse Zara ran to find Dr. Hovhannes, so that maybe he could stop him from making a big mistake.

Mariya was still on the phone with Maya, when unbeknownst to her, Elena was sitting on the bed next to Antanas, holding his hands, and whispering to him. She spoke to him as if they has been happily married for 60+ years.

Nurse Zara found Dr. Hovhannes, and told him that John Siena wanted to be discharged. He gave her a strong look of disbelief.

"Why would he want to leave when not long ago he nearly died? Let me talk some sense into him."

He was headed back to John's room when he found him lying on the ground desperately trying to get back up.

"What's wrong, Mr. Siena?"

Asked Dr. Hovhannes

"I don't know. I can't get up. It's like my legs won't work."

Said John still obsessively trying to pick himself up.

The doctor called for two male nurses who were near there to help him get John back to his bed.

Once there, he ran tests on John to try to find out what was wrong. It was clear that his spinal injury was worse than they thought, and him trying to get up on his own only made it worse.

They tried to comfort John, and make him believe that this was just something temporary, but they both realized that this was possibly a lot more serious than that.

Elena saw Mariya walking towards the room, so she exited it as quickly as she could. However, she wasn't quick enough. Mariya saw her, and was very upset.

"What are you doing in my husband's room?"

"Just doing my job. I was assigned to this room."

"Assigned? I highly doubt that. You probably begged for that room."

"That is not true. Besides, I don't have to answer to you."

She walked away, leaving Mariya even more furious.

She searched for the head nurse, and asked her if it was true that Elena was assigned to Antanas' room. She said that she had assigned her to that room herself because there was no one else available. Mariya then asked if someone else could take over for her, but the answer was still the same...

There was no one else available.

Mariya knew that the only thing she could do is keep a close eye on both Antanas and Elena. She could not leave his presence for even a moment.

Doctors took more X-Rays of John's spine. They were getting ready to view them.

They showed an small fracture on his spine. This may have seemed like it wasn't a big deal, but the doctors were worried. He could very well be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. They called in the best spine specialist they could find. They were going to do everything they could to make sure he could walk again. However, the specialist were all several hours away in different cities or countries.

John was lying in bed still only thinking of Adamo, and not the bleak future that may lie before him, when a familiar woman walked into the room...
