Back to the land of your childhood
To salwar kameez and raw silken sari

Take a slow boat and ride waves of morphine
Breathe deeply of lively spices
And sing songs of red betel nuts and love.

Close your eyes now and go to India
Roam with the tiger beneath porcelain full moon
Whisper your secrets of love to the snake
And make love under green banana leaves

Close your eyes now and go home to India
Meet the aiya who loved you through childhood
Relax to the swishing of the punkawallah’s fan
Nothing can hurt you now.

Close your eyes now and go home to India
Whole and nourished at your palace in the haze
Leave wet weather and cancer behind
And wake up tomorrow in paradise.

And don’t ever think that we won’t remember
Don’t feel frightened or alone
You made the long journey to India.
This voyage will not seem as long.

go to home to India - same comment as highhat This is probably my favorite work of yours so far sooz. Beautiful, heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I feel the final line...I don't know, I would leave it at 'this voyage will not seem as long', which I feel completes the work's message in a more artful and emotional way then the added 'close your eyes and let go' Otherwise, excellent work sooz

Thank you Pia. She was one hell of a woman, nutty as a bloody fruitcake, posh as a duchess, and the nearest thing to a mother that I've ever had.

Thanks you Tina, she died about eight years ago now, she was a good friend to me and I still miss her. She was the only person I know who always talked sense even though she was completely eccentric.

Thanks Mike, really glad this one worked. Because it's a personal one and I said that last line to her two days before she died I'm going to keep it. But I see what you're saying. Thank you, please keep pointing your thoughts out.

Thanks PT. She used to shout across three rooms 'Soo-soo' (I hated that)'Did you say you were making coffee?' I'd go into the kitchen muttering under my breath, 'No, you bloody old coot, I did not say I was making coffee.' (but I'd make it, anyway.) And this posh voice would sift through from her bedroom, 'I'm not deaf you know, I used to shop in Marks and Spencer.' She was self appointed (mostly) bed-ridden for the last fifteen years. She arranged her own funeral and had the can-can playing her out. Nobody laughed, she'd have hated that. I'm glad you liked this one.
