Scattered Memories

So long, farewell,
Auf wiedersehen goodbye
Are like a pin stuck in your eye.
To part with friends is really hell
And no good wishes can alter that.
So I say to you as you don your hat
Try not to be a silly prat
Words of parting, however solemn
Are always fairly soon forgotten.
Instead I say, instead of words spoken,
Lost like toys that lie scattered and broken.
Instead I say take words that are written
Take a photo or something that’s solid or smitten.
Because things like these can’t be forgotten,
They’re always there,
A reminder of where you spent your youth
Who with and why and a photo booth.
Things like these sure, they can be lost,
But one day all things lost are found.
Still no memories solid or not there,
No letters, no photos can quite compare
To the simple solution of staying in touch,
Together, yes, we did so much.
So when you’re feeling sad or alone,
Just give me a buzz on the telephone
Write me a letter or send me a card,
We’ll get together and relive times gone by.
