A girls family just left for the weekend and she chose to stay at home by herself because where they were going, she had been there before. The drive was horrendous and she hated the snow. She decided to take a nap to pass the time. Her dreams were full of her family and friends having a good time and when she woke up she felt lonely. Looking at the clock it was only four in the afternoon and then she felt pathetic. The girl walked downstairs and turned on the TV. She needed noise, it was too quiet. Still that void of loneliness was still there. Suddenly, she heard footsteps come in from the kitchen. It was her sister.
"Finally you're awake!" Her sister exclaimed.
The girl looked at her quizzically. Nobody was supposed to be home until the end of the week. Why was she here? Her sister noticed her worry without her saying a word.
"You've been asleep for the last three days."
Asleep? the girl thought. Her nap only lasted an hour.
"Mom thought you were dead," her sister laughed.
The girl's sister sat next to her on the couch and patted her hand.
"I'm glad you're not dead." And her sister giggled again.
Three days, the girl thought. Surely she couldn't have been asleep for three days. There was no way. The girl waked upstairs to her bedroom and checked her calendar. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were marked off. The girl suddenly felt like crying. She couldn't believe that she slept for that long and she felt weird and empty. Three days wasted. The girl felt a presence behind her and when she turned around her sister was crying. The girl hugged her and wondered the reason for her tears.
"I missed you," her sister said.
The girl wrapped her arms around her again in comfort. Then very silently, that the girl would've missed it had she not been so close, her sister whispered in her ear.
"...and I'm scared."
The girl let go again a second time and asked silently 'scared of what?'
"There's a strange man downstairs."
The girl's heart stopped and she ran downstairs. There standing in the kitchen was a man staring at her. He had a weapon in his hand. The girl heard her sister scream and in the blink off an eye, the man shot at her. As she lay on the ground
she realized that her sister was not home and she indeed was alone. She had not been asleep for three days. Everything was in her mind. Because of her loneliness the girl's mind conjured the image of her sister. Then she took her last breathe.
