Drawn to mark the earth
With mortal tattoos
These artists fashion
Fragile appendices to nature.
Whatever the opposite
Of the search for immortality
They chase it, knowing
When the back is turned
The graft may not take.
This is art as a mockery
Of what art looks for.
In this much there is
Honesty. Who creates
In certainty of the creation
Succumbing to a steady tide?
Someone with a grasp on things.
