A town called "Despair"

I rode into town, a town called “Despair”
Love, had promised she would meet me there
Confidently I dismounted, tethered truth to the rail
For as long as I could remember, I had been on the wrong trail
I entered the saloon, swaggered up to the bar
Gimme a shot of hopes, for I have travelled far
A gunslinger called revenge, began to poke fun
Said, see ya outside, once all your hopes are done
Well I drank slowly, and after what seemed like an age
I realised Love would never arrive on the stage
I drank back freely offered glasses of kindness, and care
But in the end I knew, he was waiting, out there
As I stepped outside to face my foe
He had untethered the truth, I watched it go
Then as I stood, staring into his eyes
He drew out confusion, and shot me with lie’s
The gathered crowd dispersed, as I lay dying there
Cold and alone, in a town called “Despair”
They buried me, in an unmarked grave
In a cemetery for the foolish, or brave
Which am I, think as you must
Dreams of Love, lay under the dust
Dead and gone, who gives a care
All are alone in this town called “Despair”
