Almost Summer

summer to me
is a blonde moment:
my kids, Daniel and Samuel
love to catch hermit crabs
the beach
is rolling and rolling and rolling
-many breasts of the sea breathing-
rocking
like a cradle
coloring the sand o'er and o'er again,
drawing,
burying seashells.
There are no murders at the beach,
only inflated alligators
or umbrellas
to shield
from the dazzzling rays of the sun
bleeding yellow or blonde blood
tanning flesh
and drawing nets of light-lines.
flesh buried in sand...
i want to find the words
to talk about this ever-renewing, salty sea
which breaths with silver lungs,
takes me on a voyage of rebirth.
i want to find a mermaid
and tell me that she is the daughter of the sea
haired with the flesh of liquid
making the water into an erotic mystery.
Daniel and Samuel find mermaids smelly.
and still
for the day
I feel refreshed.
