Eve

The very first view of
the very first face
is very much the sun, being
all too bright.
Her face burned with sheer light,
a holy candle lit by the breath of God, looking upon her
face,
I saw the face of God when I loved her.
We were together, day and night,
as only lovers could be together.
We had nothing to hide,
living in this garden
where everything was pure, kind:
every creature knowing the name of
every other creature.
I wanted to live like that for the rest of my life:
God sees all that we are and
we cannot lie to him
or even justify our evil as
a product of circumstance or
of necessity.
The very first face, she was all
and even more, I could not even
describe all that she was,
but when she ate of the pomegranite,
and I ate of the pomegranite,
I became less of light, and the darkness
made me anxious,
the light of her soul mixed with darkness,
that was the second view of the
first face.
