"Everything is a text," Rachel stated definitively.
"Yes. Even the context is a text. And when we are establishing relationships between texts through language, we are communicating," Lisa continued.
Rachel was editing a book titled, "Exchange of Confidences." She found the book repetitive and dull.
In the back of her mind, she was really thinking about her husband's memory problem. It really hurt her that he did not remember her. How could he do that to her? Of course, it was not his fault, but the fact that only his memories of her were erased confirmed the fact that Jay Lee may have had some feelings of ill-will toward her. This was the way that she explained the selective memory loss her husband experienced.
Tears formed under her eyes. She wanted to cry harder, to let herself go and forget. More tears and soon she found herself crying uncontrollably. She wanted to ask God why Jay had forgotten her, why she felt so dry and unfulfilled inside....
"This is the bar where we met," Rachel said.
Jay looked around. He remembered entering this bar, but then remembered nothing else.
"Where were you sitting?" he asked.
"Over there."
"what were you having?"
"A Midori Sour. I had gotten a C on an essay on Shakespeare. I was rather depressed."
"What did I say to you?"
"You asked me why I seemed so depressed when life was such a great experience."
"I said that."
"Yes."
