Is it Dumb?

I love you.
Is it dumb to say that
To someone I've never met?
Someone so perfect for me,
Someone bright, and kind,
Who's read more books than I have,
Can tell me the names of the constellations,
Can lie on her back in the grass,
Making me high on her words,
And actually wanting to be there?
With me.
Is it dumb to think where we might live?
In the suburbs,
Like in a movie, we tread
Under the leaves,
Stepping between pools of sunlight.
Your middle finger
Clutching my thumb,
And you are still perfect, bright and kind,
With a smile crafted by angels,
Shown only to me,
To make me fearless and sure.
How dumb to think of our kids,
Will they play on the grass of our family home
On summer days?
While we ask one another
What they will grow up to be,
Loving like we always have,
To a backdrop of evening haze,
And clouds shot red with sunset sunlight,
With my heart shot red with love so warm.
When in these moments,
I breathe for you, my dear.
Dumber still to think of our twilight years,
Where our kids drive out from the city to meet us,
And we reminisce,
About those days on the lawn,
Where we now sit,
Sunlight accents signs of age and imperfection,
But I don't care,
You are still eternally beautiful to me,
And the wisdom of your years,
Has replaced innocence with understanding
In that smile I fell in love with.
Am I dumb for imagining our last moments together?
As I hold you in my arms for the last time,
In the bed where we have slept
For all our years together,
And your eyes tell a story of absolute bliss,
An era of unparalleled happiness,
While above, the angels prepare
To welcome home your smile.
I would run my fingers down your face,
Let slip a tear,
And let you go.
