Brittle Star
In a sea the colour of the sky, it seems
living glass, or spun from mist, a water spider's impossible dream, a
sequin on
the ocean's chest; brittle star takes away
the breath. On the outside, a creature knit
from light; a reflection in the shallows of the
best part of the night; whilst your warm-ice
translucence makes warriors of us, your
polythene grace is as fragile as the dusk.
