The Gardener's Feet

Our gardener showed me his feet last Tuesday when he'd done mowing the lawn. White they were. As white as fresh snow or a rich American's front teeth. His limbs and face were burnt brown.

He said he was taking a holiday abroad, Spain perhaps, to get his feet brown. He planned to be sitting in the shade with his feet in the sun to redress the balance.

I warned him he'd better be careful or he could, in time, end up with black feet and a white body. Feet as black as coal.

Huh? The absurdity of racism.
