"Keep away from me!" I yelled out, hiding behind a near by tree, trying to catch my breath from running," Listen I'll give you anything you want…anything at all, just please don't kill me!" I pleaded stepping out from behind one of the trees, looking all around me. The man, or whatever it had been was gone. I looked all around making sure he was nowhere to be found. Once I was sure the coast was clear I ran as quickly as I could down the path. But it seemed the farther I ran it didn't matter…this thing was right there in front of me no matter where I ran.
"What do you want!?" I shouted, falling to my knees as tears rolled from my eyes. The creature titled his head to the side and reached out his hand, placing it on my forehead.
I awoke in a bucket of sweat, trying to catch my breath almost like I had been running, just like in my dream. I glanced over at my bedroom clock noticing the time.
"Three-Thirty," I mumbled, running my hands through my short, black hair, throwing my bed sheets aside.
"I got to get up and go to college anyways. I guess I should go ahead and stay up." I got out of bed made my way into my kitchen, and started making coffee.
"Nobody should have to get up this early in the morning, I don't care who you are," I grumbled slamming my coffee lid down on the coffee pot. As my coffee brewed I opened up the freezer door, looking for some sort of breakfast. I figured if I was going to stay up I should go ahead and eat to.
Time quickly got away from me as I sat and enjoyed my coffee, and my meal. Before I knew it I was walking to my first class from my dorm.
"Hey, Sid!" I heard an all to familiar voice call out my name from behind me. I turned around to see it was my girlfriend Camey.
"Hey…Walk me to my first class?"
"Sure." I grinned, wrapping my arm around her, walking with her up the stairs to our college.
"I was thinking about what we could do this weekend, with it being Friday and all I thought we could just spend the weekend together. Or I thought maybe I could come over to your place and stay."
I smiled as we got outside of the door to her first class," Not to sound like a dick or anything like that, but I don't think this weekend is going to be such a great idea."
"What? Why's that?"
"I got something's I was wanting to take care of this weekend. I was actually going to leave tonight and camp out in the woods, take my notebook, and get away from it all."
"Well," she got closer to me," Why don't I come to keep you-"
"Look! I said it wasn't a good idea this weekend! Okay?" I snapped at her, noticing that right after I did I didn't mean to
"Shit," I mumbled, placing my hand over my mouth.
"Fine, just be that way then! I don't know what has gotten into you recently Sid Carter! You don't want to spend anytime with me or anything here recently. Are you trying to get rid of me?"
"No that's not it at all…"I sighed," I've just been going through some issues as of recently I'm going to be taking this weekend to fix those issues. Just give me this weekend to sort them out, okay?"
Camey looked at me with a real evil glare on her face and stormed off into the classroom. I frowned as I walked off toward my first class of the day.
I made it to the classroom with a minute to spare.
"Everyone take your seats." The professor said, writing something on the board, as I found my seat to the back of the room.
"Alright, pop quiz time!" The professor called out writing on the board what the pop quiz was going to be about," If you recall we talked about pages two thirty one, through two forty. The test is going to be about that." He handed a stack of papers to the front of the class, so they could pass them back. I placed my chin in one of my hands, letting out a deep sigh, looking down at the desk. My eyes slowly started to shut as I waited for the papers to come back to me. Before I could re-open them I quickly started to drift into sleep, but the guy sitting in front of me quickly interrupted sleep.
"Hey, come on, man, I want to get this test done."
"Huh?" I jumped up; grabbing the papers from his hands, and lay it on my desk.
I looked down at the quiz, flipping the first page up, noticing that I didn't know any of the material; luckily it was multiple-choice questions. I grabbed my mechanical pencil and started to bubble in some answers, when my vision started getting blurry. I laid my pencil back down on the desk and rubbed my eyes. For some reason rubbing them didn't work at all.
Maybe I should put my head on my desk to just put my head down for a second. Just to see if this clears up. I thought to myself, putting my head down on my desk, which I quickly found out was a big mistake. I once again found myself quickly drifting off into sleep.
This time my sleep wasn't disturbed by anyone. I found myself in the dream that I was in before. For some reason this has been none stop, the same dream over and over. Being chased by…this man.
The bell to the class rang causing me to wake up from my short nap, before I could even fully get into the dream. I sat up looking down at my test…I didn't touch the quiz. I flipped over to the second page noticing something weird. There was a circle with an x through it. It looked like it was blood, but it had to have been red ink. Above the circle with the x through it was the words," You can't run."
"Sid, everyone has left besides you. I need your test so I can grade it." The professor said.
"Uh…yeah," I got up making my way toward him, handing him the paper.
"Sid…," The professor flipped the paper over," This test is blank and what is this sketching on this?"
"Honestly, I don't know where the sketch came from, but I…I fell sleep. I'm sorry… I just haven't been sleeping to well recently."
"I can tell. You look like you've been through hell. Why don't you take this home with you over the weekend and finish it. I can't give you full credit, but it'll be better than nothing."
"Thanks," I smiled and walked out of the class.
As the day went on I found myself struggling to stay awake through my classes. I just wanted to go home, pack my stuff, and make my way out into the woods. The last class of the day seem to go by the slowest, but when the last bell rang, I ran as fast as I could out of school.
"Finally, a whole weekend of catching up on some writing, and school working. Maybe this weekend away will help me clear my head." I mumbled to myself, making my way toward my dorm. When I reached my dorm, I started packing my tent and other things, so I could leave as quickly as possible.
When I stuck my notebook in my camping bag my cell-phone rang. I grabbed it looking to see who it was.
"Camey." I said to myself, looking down at my phone, deciding to let the voicemail get it. I let out a sigh as I continued to pack up my things in my bag.
"That's the last of it." I grabbed my bag swinging it over my shoulder and made my way out of the dorm, locking the door behind me.
The hike to the woods was a couple of miles away, but it was fun nonetheless, it gave me time to clear my head and think of things. When I got to where I wanted to be, I made my way deep into the woods finding a clear path to set up my tent. The spot I found had a concrete platform, I decided that I would set my tent up beside of the platform. I started to set my tent up when something from the platform caught my eye. I walked over to it, moving the leaves over to the side, noticing that there was a drawing underneath it…. what I saw had shocked me. The drawing was the same that was on my test. I think what got to me the most was that it was the same color as to.
"What the hell?" I said, grabbing my tent and other supplies moving to another spot in the woods. After a while of walking I found another open area to set up my tent. I looked around making sure there were no more platforms. I breathed in some fresh air," Nothing here but nature and myself." I said, starting to set up my tent.
By the time I fully set up my tent it was starting to get dark. I turned on my lantern, setting it in my tent, pulling out my notebook, and sitting down on my cot.
"Okay, time to finish this quiz." I grabbed my pencil from the bag and started to do the quiz Even though, I didn't know half of the answers I tried my best.
"Alright, now it's time to do some writing. Hopefully, I can get some writing done." I said, grabbing my notebook from my bag, and started to work on some of my stories.
When I got to page four on one of my short stories I had started working on, I started to get a really bad headache. I put my notebook down beside of my cot and started to rub my temples.
"Ah, Damn this is starting to turn into a migraine." I said, flipping the lantern off, throwing my head underneath the pillow, and laying there in the dark for the longest time.
"Go away, go away, go away," I mumbled to myself, hoping that the head would pass, but as time progressed only thing it seemed to do is get worse.
I shut my eyes once again, for the brief period of time, hoping this would go away. But seems how I was so tired I drifted into sleep once, again. However, this time there was no reoccurring dream…I don't remember if I dreamt at all.
I awoke once again before the sun was even up. My headache was now gone. I reached into my back and pull out my watch.
"Three A.M. are you serious?" I got up out of my tent and went behind it to relieve my self, noticing that it was kind of cool, and foggy out. I pulled my pants back up, looking off into the foggy distance noticing someone very tall and skinny.
"Hello?! Who's there?!" I called out to him, but didn't get a response.
I slowly walked over closer to the man, trying to make sense of his height. A feeling of sickness over came me. The closer I got to the man the worse the sickness became.
"Hey you there! Who are you?" I called out to him coughing.
The man just stood there in the fog, not saying a word, not even moving. I decided to quickly run back into the tent and grab my hatchet out of my bag.
"Look I have a hatchet and I'm not afraid to use it! Identify yourself now!" I gripped the hatchet tightly in my hand, raising it above my head like a baseball bat. I slowly walked back over to where I was before, quickly noticing that the man was gone. I let out a sigh of relief making my way back to my tent. But before I could make it back to camp, my attention was brought to the bushes beside me. I quickly looked over seeing the man, but this time getting a better look at him again. The man was tall and slender, from his back it looked as if he had tentacles coming out of his back. The man had to have been at least eight feet tall. His arms were so long that they almost dangled to the ground. But his face was the thing that scared me the most…no he had no face.
The sickness in my stomach was getting so bad now that I was starting to cough. I was coughing so bad that I bent down on one knee and started coughing up blood. I managed to get back up, getting enough strength to throw my hatchet at him.
"Get the fuck aw-" I coughed, again, falling to the ground holding my stomach. I could hear footsteps getting closer to me. As I laid on the ground it was all starting to make sense to me. Falling asleep in class and having the same reoccurring dreams, ever night. My dreams were trying to give me a warning. Almost like I sign. I managed to build up enough strength to get up off the ground. I quickly took off running down the path to get back to civilization. Even though I ran as fast as I could it didn't matter, before I got to any exit out of the forest the man was standing there…waiting for me.
After I tried all the paths, I finally fell to my knees giving up in the middle of the forest. The man…or creature was right in front of me, again.
"What…what do you want from me?" I cried," Why don't you just, answer me! Are you stupid!" I hit the ground with my fist.
The last thing I remember was the creature reaching out his hand and placing it on my forehead. When it was morning I woke up back in my dorm room. I don't remember how I got here, or what happened, or how I got these scratch marks on my face. It almost looked like a tiger scratched me. I'm scared to go back to classes…I don't want my girlfriend seeing me this way. I went over to my laptop, flipped it open, and started writing in Microsoft Word.
Entry # 1:
I don't know what happen last night. All I know is I can't go back to school with these scratches on my face. I know to many people will ask to many questions…There's this man…this thing. He's always in my room. Watching me for some reason. He just stands there in the corner, watches me as I sleep. I'm writing this to let everyone know of this…creature…I feel that I'm not going to be around much longer. These scratches on my face seem to burn more when I'm around this thing. I'm not sure, but I think he was the one who gave them to me. I must be careful what I write; he's standing in the corner watching me as I type this. I will be keep these entries just incase I come up missing. If I do happen to turn up missing…Camey, I want you to know that you mean a lot to me. If I have ever said anything to hurt you or upset you I'm sorry…God this thing he's just staring…with that horrible fucking face…No there is no face! That's the worse fucking part. Oh God…It's coming closer. He's walking toward me. Please help me!!!
-This was found on Microsoft word when the cops busted into Sid's dorm room. His girlfriend had called the cops and was worried about him. She told them he went to spend the weekend in the woods and didn't return to classes. After a few days past she was worried. The cops busted down the door and found this on the screen. The screen was covered with blood splatters and the keyboard had a pool of blood on it. Sid's body was never recovered. The cops did find Sid's tent out in the woods, but no trace of Sid himself.
