Inferno

Within the raging fires of deceit
all started with an arsonistic lie,
betrayal screeches from the guilty heat
in choking sobs; Oh why? Oh why? Oh why?
But reason only serves to fan the flames,
perceived as nought but cruel paradox,
when that, which never died, was born again
and though ring-fenced, still strayed outside the box.
Occasionally a clearing comes in sight,
where lovers lay, contentment in their sighs
but all goo soon, the sparks of doubt ignite
the kindling 'neath the pain within your eyes.
And this inferno weakens, as it sears
the shield of trust, too damaged to repel
those demons, armed with soul-destroying fears,
that I have sold which was not mine to sell.
Burn fiercely then - as do the stars above -
and though the landscape seems as haunted; bleak!
Let us replant anew, the seeds of love
and pray the ghosts we find, be those we seek.
