Love Shall Have Its Way

The sun doth shine and brighten all
The blackbird mimics nature’s call
Would you could save me from this fall
But love shall have its way
With head in hands I grip my hair
‘Tis with restraint I do not tear
And I would lose this pain I bear
But love shall have its way
How can this cloud, which doth haunt me
Not leave this sky and set me free
‘Tis said that what will be, will be
But love shall have its way
I know both love and hate as foes
But as each tributary goes
Hate ‘tis thought, the stronger flows!
But love shall have its way
I try to hate and damn this love;
To feed the raven, starve the dove
And curse this blessing from above
But love shall have its way
You fill my mind, you swell my heart
I cannot separate or chart
For if to finish; it must start
But love shall have its way
And sin I will, if sin I must
And blame to lust each panting thrust
I’ll later ponder, what is just
But love shall have its way
