The Shifting Sand

I lost that, which can't be found; it's hiding in the wind.
It went, while I held tightly and did desperately defend
'I will not let you go, I cried, on that you can depend',
I see it sometimes fleetingly, within the shifting sand.
I believe in free spirits and that spirits should be free,
and I believed in you and I know you believed in me.
I believe the past, was once; the future is at hand,
you'll see it sometimes fleetingly, within the shifting sand.
The King of Hearts is smiling now, the Ace has made his flush,
he pulled it slowly from his sleeve; he didn't even blush.
I called on God for referee, he said, 'I am that man',
you'll see me sometimes fleetingly, within the shifting sand.
Beware and know that thieves and rogues, don't always wear a mask
but come with smiles and diligently set about their task.
They control the dessert; it is under their command,
and you will see them fleetingly, within the shifting sand.
Your oasis has been reached, your journey at an end
I'll meet you there, when my road steers me, 'round that final bend.
I do not know, when that will be; I have not seen the plan,
til then you'll see me fleetingly, within the shifting sand.
