Lavender xXx

It’s been many years since your passing, and You have not been forgotten, as You lived far away, I didn’t see You often, You were there for all of my life, You made your impressions on me. All good.
You never had children, and I still wonder if You did, they would have been smart, cleaver, little versions of You. Yet You had me, your god-daughter, You my Mum number two.
Yet I think of You often, in fact every time, I see in the shops the perfume Lavender, for it was the only perfume You wore, it is You, and tears inevitably come to my eyes, unseen, unknown to those around me, it always brings me right back to You.
There are lots of things that remind me of You, Christmas cactus, the tiny cutting You gave me all those years ago, has grown into four large healthy pots, they must never die, for they are You.
Helena Rubinstein, your favourite lipstick by her, and even when I bought the one that was too red, as my gift to You, You didn’t mind, you simply dabbed your lips a lot and wore it with pride.
You wore blue, that was You, Conservative, that was You too. Even brown bread reminds me of You, Nutella too, thick rich, honey, cups of tea in a china cup, good manners, putting others first.
Your many stories, your sense of humour, your giving to all those charities, your operatic singing voice, your stocking hanging up on the line, the white sticker on the Drawing Room window, so the birds would have a safe passage.
Pendle Hill, Coniston Pie, Scargill House and not forgetting Skipton. We’ve been there together, they all remind me of You. Home made puddings hot and fresh from the oven, no microwave for You.
I could go on and on, and of all the few things I’ve mentioned one thing stands out above the rest, it is the scent of your lavender, that reminds me most of You. So, last week, after many years resisting, I finally bought my own…..
Lavender perfume..
