Many years ago, a baby was a baby for a long time, they didn’t seem to do much but cry, sleep and eat. When I was young a baby was just that, a baby!
Someone I work with, last year told us that his Son, who was too young to talk, stood behind him, and gently pushed him steering him to where he wanted him to go and that was to the shelf, there the Dad saw the baby’s dummy! That was what he wanted. The tiny toddler could see it high up just the side of it. Amazing.
My grandson, is one years old and he understands when you tell him, “No, don’t do that.” When he comes to our home, if he wants a drink, he will take you by the finger and walk to the kitchen and he will either point to the fridge for a drink of juice or point to higher up if he wants a rusk! Absolutely amazing! And when Turmeric barks he points to the kitchen where he is!!!
His dummy does need removing, as he needs to talk. The Health Visitor said, the same when our Son Daniel was young. He too would point, and I would understand want he meant or wanted, within reason.
I’m convinced babies are cleverer now than when I was a lass, I wonder why that is?
