A dream

It was a lazy monday. I’d seen the doctor about the cut in my finger and slept a bit during the day. Went to bed that night and fell asleep.
I awoke immediately. I got up. Where was I? I searched for a light switch. I felt a lever I pulled it. Flickering lights came on. A big panel swung open in front of me I was in a large room twice the size of my room at home. The panel in front of me had many switches and monitors and knobs, it puzzled me.
I looked around. I saw an untidy bed. The two other occupants of the room were coming to their senses.
“Oh shit this time you really did it!!” the one man said. “What did I do wrong?” I asked. “You must have gone into a paranoid dream you woke up.”
By now I’d realized I was in a spaceship.
“We were in deep sleep and I woke up and activated the life support systems?” “That is correct.” “But what about my life on Earth?”
“That was the paranoid dream.” “They warned us about you but we had to have the best.”
“But on Earth I was a science graduate, I’m trained in mathematics. I learnt it there surely it’s not nonsense?” “That isn’t so strange you had lots of time, four years, and in any case you were trained for this mission.” “We needed a thoroughly trained specialist.” “Funny how they always believe they come from Earth” the other man remarked.
The first man, he was obviously in charge of the mission, sat down on a chair in front of one of the monitors. “Now to find out where we are.”
Some days later we were nearing a star, it had some smallish planets, we chose the one that resembled “Home” the most.

I awoke in my bed. On Earth. The bang against the head could have easily sent me back into the paranoid dream. This time there was no escaping.
I didn’t want to.
