Gazing through my barred window
at stout bobbing magpie
and nut-laden squirrel on the grass
Suspect only far-sighted creatures
know gnawing loneliness

I can be very slow-witted
I can be very slow-witted when reading concentrated verse. I enjoyed the flow of this, the picture, and the expressiveness of 'gnawing loneliness'. And suddenly realised the implication of far-sighted! – ignoring what is in front of our face to appreciate and do, and be encouraged. My mother noticed the misdemeanours of the children deliberately sitting at the back of the class more than those under her nose, I gather. Rhiannon
