On An Irish Beach - On New Year's Day
I touch the sea and short circuit my mind,
Light drags me in, climbing cliffs to find gold
Falling over the ocean, into the cove.
Cold waves are rainbowed by Naturescope,
Purples and greens you can't see from the shore,
The Celtic live show giving it more.
On the beach, bathed in transcendent pink, are framed
Angels, graces and beauties, while a blonde
Barefoot Aphrodite dances dippy toe
In the murmuring foam - Yes, yes the world's at home.
That night I kissed a wild, bright woman
As fresh as the Mourne and her mountains,
Showing that life can still be grasped, and is
More than bars of despair round dry fountains.
'Snog me bones out', she said and I did my best,
Gilding the memories of the magic west.
Your eyes are my stars, your arms my guide,
Take me to paradise, I fancy a ride.
Then bury me gently where I can see most,
In the treasure-filled seas of Ireland's gold coast.
