Once, in ages long ago, there was a boy called Baringa who could not throw a boomerang properly no matter how he tried. No matter what he did, whenever he threw a boomerang it just wouldn’t come back and one day he threw a boomerang so far that he could not even see where it had gone to.
But then, just as he was wondering whether he should run after it; in the distance he saw a Dragon-Roo come leaping over a mountain and hopping towards him
A dragon-roo is a giant scaly, fire breathing dragon but one that is just like a Kangaroo, and bounces high in the air, leaping over great distances instead of flying and, up out of its dragon-roo pouch, popped the head of its baby dragon-roo that was breathing fire aswell and both the mother and its baby were roaring louder than ten thousand didgeridoos.
And then they started to eat up the people of Baringa’s village. First the mother would eat one and then the baby in her pouch would eat one or they would set fire to them with the fiery breath from both their mouths.
And all the men of the village tried hurling flaming spears and boomerangs at them, but the mother dragon-roo was armour plated and the baby dragon-roo, although his body was softer, just ducked down like a turtle inside the shell of his mother’s armour plated pouch.
And before long the Dragon-Roo had eaten up all of the members of Baringas tribe, including his father and mother and brother and sister and, because it was a particularly mean dragon-roo, it even hopped up and down on all the houses of the tribe squashing them flat.
But then it came to Baringa who was the last person of the tribe left alive and at first the mother dragon-roo and the baby dragon-roo were squabbling because they both wanted to eat baringa but then they agreed that they would share him between them.
“I’ll have the top half”, said the mother “and you can have the bottom half”.
And Baringa was shaking with terror as the giant Dragon-roo hopped closer to him; snarling and growling; thinking that he would surely be torn apart and eaten by the foul creatures.
But, just then, in the distance behind the dragon-roo, he saw something come flying through the air.
It was the boomerang that he had thrown earlier and it was coming back, but not only that, it was heading straight for the mother dragon-roos head.
“Thwunk!”, it went as it hit the mother dragon-roos scaly head and knocked her down dead in an instant and, as she fell, she hit the earth with a mighty crash throwing up a huge cloud of dust.
Now, the baby dragon-roo inside the mothers pouch, because its mother was dead, started to panic and it got out and started to hop away but Baringa picked up his father’s spear and killed the baby dragon-roo with it and the baby monster fell down beside its mother.
However, though he had slain the two dragon-roo’s, Baringa was very sad because all his family and friends had been eaten and he was all alone and he started to cry.
But then, just as he was crying, he heard a noise coming from inside the belly of the mother dragon-roo and then, to his surprise, he saw the head of his father pop up out of the dragon-roos pouch and then his father jumped out and then he saw his mothers head pop up out of the pouch of the baby dragon roo and then she jumped out and then all of the people of his tribe started coming up out of the pouches of the mother dragon-roo and her baby.
Now, when Baringa told his family what had happened, they all thought he was a very great hunter and they cooked the two dragon-roos and had a great feast in his honour and, also from that day forward, not only was Baringa able to throw the boomerang but he was the best boomerang thrower in his tribe.
