"Stop it, Sophie, please", said Sophies Mother, standing in the doorway of her room, watching her infront of the mirror admiring her glittering steel body, "You're destroying yourself. Can't you see that".
"But I just want to be perfect, Mum", replied the girl, "Like a robot".
It had just seemed like a fad at first; a new technofashion that her daughter was following; replacing parts of her body with machine parts.
"I can live with a daughter with bionic arms or legs", she'd thought, "If thats really what makes her happy".
But that was just the beginning, before long she realized that Sophie wouldn't ever be happy until she had made herself into a machine.
She blamed the celebrities; all the popstars and movie stars had been having technological "Enhancements" for years and , growing up, Sophie had been hooked on Celebrity culture, reading all the magazines and watching the TV programmes.
And then they started bringing in robot girl singers and suddenly every girl wanted to be a robot.
It was no wonder that Sophie was so obsessed with turning herself into one.
"But where is it going to end?", she asked her daughter.
Sophie turned round and stared at her through the artificial eyes in a mask like face.
"When I've replaced my brain with a computer", said Sophie, "That will be the last thing. Then I'll be perfect".
"But then you won't be my daughter anymore", said her mum in a horrified voice, "It'll be like killing yourself".
"It will still be my personality but digitally recorded", said Sophie.
"I don't believe that", said her mum, "I don't see how a computer can ever be the same as a living person; a heart and soul".
"But I'll be better than I am now, Mum", said her daughter, "Don't you want me to be perfect".
Sophies mum couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"You were already perfect to me", she said, "Without all that stuff. I'd rather have a real flesh and blood girl for a daughter than a doll".
Sophie turned back towards the mirror.
"You don't understand", said Sophie, "You're just afraid of change, thats all but change is beautiful. Change is good".
But then Sophies mum took out something, a small black box she had been keeping in her pocket and aiming it at her daughter she pressed a button.
Moving by themselves, Sophies limbs turned her back round to face her mother.
"What?!. Mum", she said in a panicky voice, "Help. My body's gone haywire".
"Not it hasn't", said her mum, "I just bought this remote control online. It can control and even switch off your robotic limbs".
"Mum", said Sophie seeing the box in her mothers hand, "How could you do that to your own daughter?".
"I'd do anything", said her mum, "To save you".
