The Contest of Angels

Once there were three little orphan girls called Paula, Laura and Sue who lived with their cruel, wicked Aunt, Immelda.
And they were walking through the forest one day when they were surrounded by three angels; one with red hair; one with dark hair and one with hair of gold.
"Little girls", they said, "Which of us do you think has the best singing voice".
And then each of the angels began to sing and, after they had heard them all the girls said, "The angel with the golden hair has the better singing voice".
But then the three angels wanted them to judge how bright their wing feathers were and the angel with red hair had feathers of bronze; the angel with dark hair had feathers of silver but the angel with golden hair had feathers of gold.
And because the little girls thought that gold was the prettiest colour of the three they picked the angel with golden hair.
But the three angels still wanted them to judge one thing more; who could give them the nicest gift.
And the angel with hair of red gave them a little ballerina that really danced in the palms of their hands but the angel with dark hair gave them the gift of a magic golden pot that could fill itself with any sweets and chocolates they wished for and was never empty while the angel with golden hair gave them each a singing flower.
And though the little girls liked the gifts of the red haired angel and the darked haired one, it was the gift of the golden haired angel which they all liked the best
So, because they had lost the contest, the angel with red hair and the dark haired angel flew away with annoyance.
But then the angel with golden hair was so happy that he took the little girls flying to the moon and stars where he made a necklace of stars for each of them; he took them over the rainbow to fairyland and got them each a pretty new dress and shoes made by fairy dressmakers and cobblers and he took them down to visit King Triton and his mermaids at the bottom of the sea where they danced at the Undersea ball to an orchestra of crabs and cuttlefishes; then he took them to his golden angel house that was high up on a snowy mountain where he put down a wishing bowl and wishing cup infront of them each and whatever food and drink they wished for appeared within them.
And when they said they were cold upon the mountain; at a flutter of his angel wings, a fire filled the harth that warmed the room and three golden blankets appeared infront of them that they wrapped themselves in.
But then the little girls said they should get back home because their Aunt would be angry with them if they came home too late and so the angel flew them home but he gave them a magic whistle and said that if they ever wanted his help for anything they only had to blow upon the whistle and he would come to help them.
But, when they entered their Aunts house, they discovered that their wicked Aunt had sold them to the Goblins and three Goblin men forced the girls into a sack before carrying them off back to their Goblin village.
And the goblins made the girls slaves, forcing them to cook and clean and do all their chores.
Thankfully the girls had the angels magic whistle and when Paula blew upon it, the Angel appeared.
Ofcourse the Goblin men, seeing the angel, picked up their spiky clubs and ran towards him to attack him but the angel made a circle of light appear around he and the girls which the Goblins couldn't enter and, infact, when they tried to enter it they burned their bare goblin feet as if they had stepped upon hot coals.
But the Goblins were not willing to give up the girls without a fight and so they picked up sticks and stones to throw at the girls but then the Angel merely raised his right hand and the sticks split into splinters while the stones turned into dust.
Then, however, the Goblins unchained their pet dragon so that it would fly into the circle and eat up the Angel and the girls.
But this time, the angel took off his belt and it became a golden lasso which he threw around the dragons neck and, when he did that, suddenly, the dragon became tame.
Then the angel told the girls to climb upon the dragons back and they all flew home to his golden Angel house high up on the snowy mountain where they lived happily ever after.
