The Fable Of The Evergreen

Once upon a time, in a garden, there grew a pine tree and all of the other trees in the garden used to mock it because it was so dull compared to them with their brightly coloured flowers.

The peach and cherry trees with their beautiful blossoms were the most insufferable of all and regularly sniggered and pointed at the pine saying, “Look at that great, ugly thing over there. It has no flowers and no fruit except those silly, spiky cones”.

But then came the winter and the leaves on all of the other trees started to fall off till they were completely bare.

Now it was the turn of the pine tree to laugh for he was an evergreen and though he possessed no bright flowers he stayed green all winter long.
