Grow up, grow up

Once upon a time a young man name Timothy Tom was passing by a house in the forest when he happened to spy a most astonishing thing; an old witch was standing over a table with three gold sovereigns upon it and, stirring a wooden spoon in the air she was saying, "Grow up, grow up, grow up".
Suddenly, by some magic, the three gold sovereigns grew in size until they were as large as dinner plates but each looked as if it were made of solid gold.
"Why what a trick", said the man, "If I only had that spoon I could be as rich as a king".
But then, he saw the witch hang up the spoon and take the three large gold coins out with her and heard her saying to herself,
"With all this gold I will go to market and buy a pile of things; a new cart to put them on and a new carthorse to pull it".
And thinking that if the witch had gone to market she would be away for some time, the man crept into the witches kitchen and stole the wooden spoon.
The moment that he left the witches house however, the door of the house became a mouth that cried out, "Mistress, mistress, come quickly. Some knave has entered your kitchen and has made off with your wooden spoon".
Suddenly, hearing this, the witch grew two extra legs and, running on four feet, came racing quickly home.
And when she saw Timothy Tom walking through the forest she grew two extra arms and, opening her kitchen drawer, picked up a carving knife, a ladel, a mallet and a rolling pin then running, again upon 4 feet, she chased the young man through the forest.
"I'll teach you to take what does not belong to you!", she shouted as she charged towards him as fast as lightning on a rail.
And seeing the witch coming towards him, at first Timothy Tom started to panic but then he remembered the magic spoon and how it would make things grow and so, stirring the spoon in the air, he said to all the flowers at his feet,
"Grow up, grow up, grow up".
And with each word he spoke the flowers grew a little taller until there was a forest of giant buttercups and daisies between him and the witch.
But then, seeing the forest of giant flowers appear, the witch started to hack her way through them with the carving knife and she did this so fast that it was not long before she had cut all the giant flowers down and had Timothy Tom in her sights again.
And now the witch, using her ladel used it to hurl stones at the man and she did it so fast that it was like a rain of hailstone flying towards him.
Frightened, Tom hid behind a tree but then he saw that there was an apple hanging by a branch above the witches head and stirring his spoon in the air he commanded it, "Grow up! Grow up! Grow up!".
And when he said this the apple grew enormous; as large as the moon looks in the sky and it was so heavy that the branch couldn't take its weight so it fell upon the witch, squashing her pointed hat and knocking her unconcious.
Then, seeing the witch lying on the ground, Tom ran off again, as fast as he could through the forest.
But though the apple had left a bump upon the witches head as tall and pointy as her hat; the witch was no ordinary woman and, before long, she was up on her four feet again and chasing after Timothy Tom, this time hammering upon the ground with her mallet and making the earth shake.
Infact the ground shook so much that Timothy Tom was knocked off of his feet and before he could get back up again he saw the witch galloping towards him as fast as a barrel down a hill.
Fortunately, then Timothy Tom saw a puddle on the ground and, raising up his spoon and stirring it in the air again, he said to it,
"Grow up! Grow up! Grow up!".
And when he did this, suddenly, what had just been a little shallow puddle became a ginormous lake seperating Timothy from the witch.
Now the young man was sure he had gotten away from her but the witch had four arms and four legs and, diving into the lake, she turned them round so fast that they were like the big wheels upon a paddle steamer, pushing her forwards so fast that before Timothy Tom had taken two steps the Witch had crossed half way across the lake and before he had taken four steps she was standing on the other side, dripping wet but burning with anger for Timothy Tom.
"No more silly games", said the witch, placing a hand upon either handle of her rolling pin and turning herself into a big, angrilly scowling steam roller, "Now I'm going to flatten you flatter than a flapjack".
And rolling towards Timothy Tom the steam roller crushed everything in its path; trees, rocks, even farm walls and fences and, however far he ran, it always seemed to be close behind him.
Just then however, Timothy Tom noticed a small hole up ahead; barely large enough to fit a hand into but, stirring his spoon in the air, he called out,
"Grow up! Grow up! Grow up!".
And then suddenly, like the mouth of a giant yawning, the hole started to grow and as it was growing, Timothy leapt over it to the other side but when the Witch tried to leap after him, because she had turned herself into a steam roller, she was too heavy and went plummeting downwards into the hole and the hole was so deep that she fell right into one of the lava lakes of hell and was burned to a cinder.
After that Timothy Tom went back home and using the magic wooden spoon, he made a doll grow into a princess; his cottage grow into a castle; a purse of pennies grow into a fortune and then he and his princess lived happily ever after.
