One day, Kali the canine wizard was in the old wizards cottage with her friends, Loki and Minerva.
She had conjured up a delicious Wonderberry pie using the pie making spell she had just learned but it was far too hot to eat and so she'd left it out on the window sill to cool down.
Loki and Minerva were both very hungry and couldn't wait to taste some of the pie; Loki licking his lips in anticipation.
But then, just as Kali was going to check on the pie something very strange happened.
All by itself, the pie started to rise up into the air and then, to their amazement, Kali and her friends all saw it float out of the window.
"Hey!", shouted Loki, unhappily, "Come back. I was going to eat you".
Kali opened the door of her house and she and her friends all went outside to see where the floating pie was floating to and just as they did they saw the pie land again in the hands of some little pointy eared elves.
"Elves", said Loki angrilly, "And they're stealing my pie".
As soon as they heard Loki, however, the elves got frightened and started to run; they ran all the way down the road that lead past Kali's house carrying the pie above their heads.
"Come back here you", said Loki hopping after them.
But the elves were much too fast.
"Hmm?", thought Kali, "Maybe a magic spell might help".
And taking hold of the wand that always hung upon the collar round her neck, Kali waved it back and forth, speaking, as she did, a magic spell.
"Abracadabra", she said, "Abracadoe. Make those pie nappers extra slow".
And then, all of a sudden and much to the surprise of the little elves running away with pie, they found it very difficult to run; in fact it felt almost as if they were running through thick, sticky treacle.
And when Kali saw that the spell was working she ran after the elves, catching up with them, before snatching the pie back off of them.
"Oh please", one of the elves begged as they all started to cry little elfin tears, "Don't be angry with us wizard. We're sorry that we stole your pie but we wanted to taste it so much. You see we're not allowed to eat Wonderberry pie. Our Queen Elvina has forbidden it".
"Forbidding Wonderberry pie", said Loki, not believing his long rabbit ears, "Why thats a terrible thing to do. Why would anyone want to forbid such a delicious thing".
"We don't know why", said the elf, "But she hates Wonderberry pie and if anyone even so much as mentions it, she uses her magic elfstone ring to turn them into a toadstool".
"Well maybe", thought Kali, "If we went to your queen and talked to her, we could convince her not to be so strict".
But the elf seemed doubtful.
"I don't know", he said, "Queen Elvina has a very bad temper. She may not even listen".
"Well, we can atleast try", said Kali.
So, once Kali had released the elves from his slowing spell, they lead she, Loki and Minerva to a tree in the forest of Evergreen and, when one of them knocked three times upon the trunk of the tree a magic secret door opened in its side; the door to the Queendom of the elves.
Then Kali and her friends followed the elves down a long spiral staircase that lead deep under the Earth to the Elf Queens palace.
When they entered the throne room of Queen Elvina however and she saw Loki carrying the Wonderberry pie in his paws, the Elf queen suddenly became very angry.
"How dare you", she shouted, her eyes blazing with rage, "How dare you enter my queendom with that...that...pie".
"But we only wanted to talk to you", said Kali, "To find out why you hate Wonderberry pies so much and why you won't let your elves eat them".
"Silence!", screamed the elf queen, "I will not tolerate your impudence any longer. For what you have done I will turn you all into toadstools".
Hearing this, Kali took hold of the wand that hung from her collar.
"No you won't", she said, "I'm a wizard and I'll use my wand to protect us".
But the Elf queen only laughed.
"Ha!", she said, "Your wand? Why your puny powers are nothing compared with my elfstone ring"
And, pointing her magic ring towards Kalis collar, before Kali could do anything to stop her, the Elf queen made the collar disappear in a flash of shimmering blue light before, much to the canine wizards dismay, she saw it reappear again round about the queens neck.
Kali gulped nervously,
"What do we do now?", Kali asked Minerva
"Hmm?", said Minerva, "Well there are a lot of spells I could work if we only had more time and a cauldron".
"But we don't have a cauldron or time", said Kali, "All we've got is an Wonderberry pie".
Just then however, Kali eyes lit up as if something had dawned upon her, and seizing the Wonderberry pie out of Lokis hands she hurled it towards the head of the evil Elf queen.
"No", cried the Queen as Wonderberry pie splatted her in the face and, suddenly, to the amazement of everyone, and with a very loud KA-BOOM and a bright flash, the colour of wonderberries they saw the elf queen explode.
"What was in that pie?", asked Loki stunned.
"Just stewed Wonderberrys", said Kali, "But it occurred to me that maybe the reason the queen didn't like Wonderberry pie so much was because it could destroy her".
But then, all round about them Kali and his friends saw elves dancing and celebrating.
"Hooray for Kali", they cheered, "She's destroyed our evil queen. Now we can eat whatever we want".
And when Kali got her collar and wand back, she conjured up a giant Wonderberry pie so that all the elves in Elfland; her friends Minerva and Loki could all have a piece and everyone agreed it was the best Wonderberry pie they had ever tasted.
