Kyrielle And The Wooden Soldier

There was once a little orphan girl called Kyrielle who lived with her cruel stepmother and step sisters.
One day, however, her stepmother sent her into the forest to pick apples.
And when she was in the forest she found a little wooden soldier lying on the bank of a woodland stream.
Now Kyrielle had never had any toys because her stepmother was too mean to buy her a doll and her stepsisters too selfish to share their dolls with her.
And so Kyrielle picked up the toy soldier and, hiding it under her ragged shawl took it home and up to the dark, drafty attic where she had to sleep.
And everyday, in secret, she would hug the doll and play with it.
But as the days passed Kyrielle started to notice something odd about the doll.
Every day it seemed to grow a little larger.
"How strange", she thought, "It must be a magic doll to grow in size".
But magic or not, the strange doll soon began to worry her because, before long, it had grown so big that she couldn't hide it anymore; as big as a tailors mannequin infact.
And one day, her stepmother and step sisters came up to see her in the attic because they intended to give her a row for not doing her chores properly just for the fun of it.
And when they saw the giant toy soldier they got so angry that they bent Kyrielle over and started to beat her with a broom.
"Whats that?", her snarling step sisters yelled at her, pulling on her hair as her stepmother was walloping her, "Where did you steal that from, you little wretch and who said you could bring it up to the attic?".
As this was happening however, suddenly the stepmother and her daughters heard a sound from behind them and, turning round, they saw a real living soldier standing there and the soldier, drawing his sword chased them out of the attic and then out of their house altogether.
Then speaking to Kyrielle he explained that he was a prince who had been turned into a toy soldier by a wicked Troll but that her hugs had made him grow back to his normal size and her love had brought him back to life again.
After that the Prince took Kyrielle home to live with him in his palace and they both lived happily ever after.
