The Magic Lullaby

Once upon a time there was a little boy and girl called Lulu and Bobby whose parents loved them very much and, every night, to send them off to sleep their parents would sing them this song:

 

La-la-la-la lullaby,
like a bubble to the sky,
drift off little baby boy
to a little land of joy.

 

Ha- ha-ha-ha happy tune,
like a feather to the moon
drift off little baby girl
to a happy, magic world.

 

But then one day, the parents of the two children had to go on a boat trip and left their children in the care of their Aunt.
Unfortunately, their boat got lost in a fog and, when the fog cleared, their boat had vanished and no one ever knew what had happened to it.
And so the poor boy and girl were stuck in the care of their Aunt and, whats worse, their Aunt turned out to be a wicked witch who was very cruel and made them both do all her house work and dress in rags and sleep, not in their bedroom, but in a cold dark cupboard under their stairs.
And the poor children were both very sad and very lonely.
But then, one night, because they couldn't sleep they decided to sing the lullaby that their parents had always sung to them.

to a happy, magic world.

 

But as the boy and girl were singing, suddenly, something remarkable and magical started to happen for then Bobby and Lulu started to drift upwards, through the ceiling of that little cupboard under the stairs, through the roof of their house and all the way up to a land of dreams and moonbeams in the sky.
"It must be magic", said Lulu to her brother Bobby as they both landed upon a glittering cloud as soft as candyfloss.
But then, in front of them, the two children both saw a little cottage that was painted all the colours of the rainbow and had rainbow coloured smoke rising from its chimney and out of the cottage came a little gnome with a jingling star upon his tall pointed hat.
"Hello children", he said, when he saw Lulu and Bobby, "I have been expecting you".
"Expecting us?", asked Bobby.
"Yes", said the Gnome, "Ever since your wicked Aunt used evil magic to cast a spell, making a magic fog appear and the boat your parents were travelling on vanish I have been keeping a magic eye on you. Your parents haven't really vanished, you know. Their boat and all its crew have just been made very tiny and are in a bottle that your Aunt keeps on her mantlepiece".
"Oh thats awful", said Lulu.
"Yes but don't worry", said the  gnome, "My magic is just as strong as hers. I make the happy dreams that children dream and I can also make dreams come true".
Then he gave Lulu a star of pink and Bobby a star of blue.
"Those are dream stars", said the gnome, "What ever you dream of when you're holding them will come true but you must use them wisely, remember because you only get one dream each".
Then the gnome told them both that he was sending them back down to earth to free their parents from the witch's bottle and, sitting at the top of a rainbow, they slid all the way back down through the sky and through the roof their house, landing together upon the sofa in their living room.
And in the living room they also saw the mantlepiece upon which their Aunt kept a tiny model ship inside a bottle as an ornament.
"That must be the ship in the bottle that the gnome was talking about", said Bobby.
And going over to the mantlepiece Bobby and Lulu, standing on tip toes, both tried to reach the bottle but it was just too high up.
"Its no good", said Lulu to her brother, "We'll never reach it".
But then Bobby saw a chair nearby and so the children pushed the chair over to the mantlepiece and Bobby got up onto it, standing upon it.
And, now high enough to reach the bottle, he was just about to take it from the mantlepiece when, suddenly, their evil Aunt burst into the room.
"Aha!", she said, "I thought I heard naughty children up to no good. Trying to rescue your parents are you? Well then I'll have to get rid of you aswell".
And, reaching behind her ear, their Aunt pulled out a magic wand that she pointed at them both and the magic wand began to glow.
"Quick Lulu", said Bobby to his sister, "Use your dream; the one the gnome gave you".
And so, taking the magic pink dreamstar from her pocket, Lulu dreamed of the witch far away on the moon and, suddenly, with a startled shriek, the witch vanished.
Because Lulu had dreamed of her Aunt being on the moon, you see, and because the dreamstar made dreams come true, their Aunt really had been sent to the moon.
But their Aunt was very powerful and when she found herself on the moon she turned her magic wand into a magic rocket powered witch's broom and came flying back down from the moon and though the window of the living room.
Atleast Bobby had got hold of the bottle though but then their Aunt, pointing her wand towards the bottle made it leap out of his hands and into her hand.
"Hah!", laughed their Aunt, "Now I've got the bottle and you'll never free your parents".
Fortunately, Bobby still had his dream and, taking the blue dreamstar from his pocket, he dreamed of the witch turning to stone.
And because the dreamstar made dreams come true, so the witch, with another startled shriek, was turned completely into a stone statue.
Then Lulu took the bottle out of the Witch's stone hand.
"Good dream, Bobby", she said, "Now we can open the bottle and set our parents free".
Unfortunately, the cork in the bottle was stuck tight and no matter how Lulu tugged on it, it wouldn't come out and when she handed it to Bobby and he tried the cork still wouldn't come out.
And to make matters worse, suddenly they heard the stone statue of their evil Aunt begin to crack.
She was using her witches magic to turn herself back from stone into flesh and then, terrified, both the children saw their Aunt burst out from within the statue as if she was hatching from a shell.
"I've had enough of playing games, children", said their Aunt, dusting fragments of stone off of her dress, "Now I'm going to get rid of you once and for all".
And she pointed her wand towards them again and it started to glow and make a loud whooshing noise.
But then, suddenly, as Bobby was pulling hard upon the cork in the bottle, they all heard a loud 'Pop!'.
And, looking down, Bobby realized that the cork had come out of the bottle but then something else amazing happened because suddenly the model ship came flying out from inside the bottle and as it did it quickly grew until it had grown back to its original size then, as the witch let out a final startled shriek, the huge boat landed ontop of her, flattening her into the living room carpet.
Then Lulu and Bobby saw their parents and the other crew and passengers of the boat starting to climb out of it.
Happily, the children rushed over to their parents and their parents, overjoyed to see them again, hugged them tightly.
After that Bobby, Lulu and their parents lived happily ever after and, because their parents would always sing the magic lullaby to them at night, they also, drifting off to the land of dreams and moonbeams had many happy dreams.
