One day a poor girl called Miracella had a dream in which her late mother spoke to her and told her to go to the princes ball.
"Go to the princes ball?", she asked her mother, "But why?".
"Miracella", she said, "Though I got a beautiful daughter, the most beautiful daughter in the whole world. I was a single mother. I never met my handsome prince and I don't want the same thing to happen to you. I want you to go to the princes ball tomorrow and dance with him".
"But why would he dance with me?", asked Miracella, "I'm just a poor peasant girl".
"Have faith Miracella", said her mother, "And your dreams will all come true".
And so, the next morning, in barefeet and rags Miracella set off on a long journey to the palace of the prince.
And, as she was travelling along the road she met a dressmaker who was coming the other way.
"And where are you going young girl?", asked the dressmaker.
"I'm going to the princes ball", she said knowing how absurd it sounded but trusting in her mother.
"The Princes ball?", said the Dressmaker, "My dear! Well you can't go like that. You need a proper ball gown to go to the princes ball".
Miracella looked sad.
"Oh but, I don't have anything else but this old ragged dress", said Miracella.
"Well then", said the dressmaker with a gleam in her eye, "Its lucky that I just happen to have the perfect dress for you right here in my bag".
And, opening the bag she was carrying, the dressmaker pulled out a velvet ball gown covered in sparkling gems.
"Why would you give this to me?", asked Miracella.
"Oh I made it for myself a long time ago", said the dressmaker, "For the day I met my prince but sadly he never came. It belongs on a beautiful young girl like you so take it and win your prince".
Miracella couldn't believe her luck and whats more the dress was a perfect fit.
So then, thanking the old dressmaker, Miracella went on her way.
But then, after she had travelled only a short distance further, something else remarkable happened.
For on the road, she met a cobbler going the other way.
"And where are you going young girl?", he asked.
"I'm going to the princes ball", she said still thinking it sounded unbelieveable.
"The Princes Ball?", asked the cobbler, "My dear! You can't go to a princes ball in bare feet. You need proper shoes of silver and gold".
Miracella looked down at her bare feet sadly.
"Oh but I don't have any shoes at all", she said.
"Well then", said the cobbler with a smile, "Its lucky that I just happen to have the perfect pair of shoes for you".
And, reaching inside his bag, the cobbler took out a sparkling pair of shoes made of gold and silver and covered in gems.
"But why would you give them to me?", asked Miracella.
"I made them, along time ago for the girl I loved to wear but she ran away with another man and so I never was able to give them to her", he replied, "They belong on the feet of a beautiful young girl like you".
Miracella was amazed by her good fortune and whats more, the shoes were a perfect fit.
So thanking the cobbler, Miracella continued on her journey.
After that Miracella was sure that she couldn't be any luckier.
But then, after she had walked only a short distance more, she saw a glittering carriage coming the other way, driven by a coachman and pulled by six white horses.
"Where are you going young lady?", said a voice from inside the coach.
"I'm going to the princes ball", she said, starting to believe that anything was possible.
"The Princes ball", said the voice, "My dear! You can't walk to a princes ball you have to go in a golden carriage".
Miracella felt slightly embarassed because she thought the owner of the coach must be someone important.
"I'm afraid I don't have a golden coach. I'm really only a poor girl", she said.
"Well then", said the person within the coach, "Its lucky that I came by when I did because you can take my coach to the princes ball".
"But why would you let me take your coach?", asked Miracella.
Then, suddenly, from out of the coach, to Miracellas amazement, there stepped the Prince himself.
"Because I was running away from the ball", he said, "I didn't want to dance with alot of boring, stuck-up old princesses but if you're going to be there then I want to be there too".
Then the prince helped Miracella into the coach and they rode together to the princes ball.
There were lots of real princesses there and all of them were beautiful and elegant but the only one that the Prince wanted to dance with was Miracella and after he had danced with her he was sure she was the only one he ever wanted to marry.
And not long afterwards she was married to the prince in a beautiful white dress made by the dressmaker and beautiful shoes made by the cobbler and, sitting among the congregation, though noone else could see her, she saw her mother dressed in heavens finery and smiling proudly.
"Go to the princes ball?", she asked her mother, "But why?".
