People talk of flying saucers
but I know just what I saw, sir
and it was not one of those.
 
What I saw was made of pastry
and I think it looked more tasty
than any UFO's.

Well the problem with writing about pies is that in America, so I've heard, pies are just a dessert food while in Britain they're both a dessert and a savoury food.

So I thought, so as to give this song broader appeal, I'd stick to fruit pies.

But to address your point its like Arthur C Clark said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." so I'm sure an advanced enough alien civilization could manage giant floating pastries with any filling.
